Lately, I have been so busy with work, school, and being a mom that I have not had a lot of time to make prints. This being said, I decided to spend a few minutes to create a list of my top 5 favorite printmaking and art podcasts. These podcasts have kept me entertained until I am able to print again.
5. Hello Print Friend
Hello Print Friend is a podcast about printmaking. It has become one of my favorites on long drives throughout the week. “Hello, Print Friend is a podcast dedicated to the celebration and amplification of contemporary printmaking and its culture. Releasing interviews every week with artists, activists, curators, and print champions, we explore what it is that brings together this passionate, yet often geographically separated community, across a press bed and around the world. “
One of the nice things about this podcast in particular besides the friendly sounding Miranda K. Metcalf is that they have episodes which are in spanish. This makes this podcast more accessible to spanish speaking artists and printmakers.
4. The Print Cast
The Print Cast is one of the first printmaking podcasts I had found. I like Nick Naughton’s point of view about printmaking and he has had some interesting guests that talk about their experiences with printmaking.
“Host Nick Naughton talks with some of the best contemporary printmakers working today, including fine artists, designers, illustrators, collaborative printers, and commercial artisans in letterpress, foil stampers, and even book binders. Nick and his guests talk shop sharing anecdotes, business ideas, and technical tips with listeners everywhere. The show drops a new episode every two weeks featuring some of the best minds working in multiples today. “
3. Artist Mother
Kaylan Buteyn is the host of this podcast Artist Mother which is about mothers who struggle to arrange their lives around creating while balancing motherhood and caretaking. It is nice as a mom to listen and feel less alone in my art journey.
“As long as there will be people making art there will be mothers making art and we hope there is always a space to uplift and support their art practices and well being.”
2. Art Juice Podcast
The Podcast for Artists, Aspiring creatives, and art lovers.
Alice Sheridan, delves into the realities of the artist’s life. They share their progress and discuss the realities of being an artist in the modern world.
- Ask an Artist Podcasts
This is my favorite podcast to listen to as an artist. I started listening because Laura Boswell was the co host, but I have continued to listen even after her departure from the show.
They cover a lot about being a working artist and how to manage and balance family life, business practices, and they give a bit of information about their experiences with galleries.
“The purpose of the show and this website is to share their knowledge and expertise of what it takes to become a working artist. The sort that gets to make art AND pay the bills at the same time. Covering a range of topics from social media to self-doubt or finding a gallery to finances, they discuss and dissect all the business related issues rarely discussed in the art world.”
